Discover the sounds, rhythms and traditions of Indian music in this lively and interactive one-hour experience with Ranvir Singh.
Designed for children aged 6–12, families and adults with an interest in Indian music and culture, this event offers much more than simply watching a performance. You will have the opportunity to listen, participate, sing, explore rhythms and experience first-hand some of the ways Indian music is taught and learned.
During the session, Ranvir will introduce you to the distinctive sounds and musical traditions of Indian music through live performance and guided activities. Participants will be encouraged to join in with simple rhythms, singing and practical musical exercises, with opportunities to experience instruments and learn short musical ideas in a relaxed and supportive environment.
No previous musical experience is needed. Everything will be introduced step by step and designed to be simple, enjoyable and achievable, giving both children and adults the satisfaction of making music themselves.
Skills Developed
The session will also give you an insight into Ranvir’s regular Indian music classes, including the skills students can develop through learning Indian music, such as:
Developing a strong sense of rhythm and pulse
Improving singing, listening and musical memory
Exploring Indian musical traditions, instruments and culture
Developing confidence and creativity through music-making
Learning through practical participation rather than simply observation
Whether you are considering Indian music lessons for your child, are interested in learning yourself, or simply want to experience something new as a family, this is an opportunity to take part, make music and discover Indian music from the inside.
Places are limited to approximately 60 participants, so advance booking is essential. Due to space limitations, only registered participants will be able to attend.
